With all the vines blocking their view, Danny and Melody had completely failed to spot the pond. They stepped right into the water and re-emerged at the surface, gasping for air.

“Phssssh!” spluttered Danny, startled by the unexpected coldness of the water.

“A-woo!”

Ooh, Boss and Boy are swimming! Dog likes the water. Dog wants to play too!

Dog gleefully jumped into the pond to join Danny and Melody. He doggy-paddled over to Melody and playfully thrashed about in the water.

“Why is there a swimming pool in the Botanic Gardens?” asked Danny, trying to shield his face from Dog’s splashes.

“This isn’t a swimming pool!” said Melody. “Look at all those water lilies. This must be Swan Lake! We should get out.”

“But the exit is that way!” said Danny, pointing across the lake. “We should just swim across. It’s easier than going around the jungle maze.”

“Don’t be silly,” chided Melody. “I’m not going to swim across an entire lake! That would take forever.” She waded to the edge of the lake and was about to haul herself out when she heard something stirring in the tall grass surrounding the edge of Swan Lake.
